All,

we have just released SetupBuilder 2023 BETA-1. And... that is just the
beginning... Stay tuned - you'll hear from me regularly :-)

I have invested quite a few thousand programming hours in fixes,
enhancements and brand new functionality. We'll perform four beta cycles to
test the new & enhanced modules. Please do *not* use SetupBuilder 2023 beta
versions in production environments!

BETA-1 introduces the rewritten Wizard Dialog system. See attached
screenshot. On the left the new SetupBuilder 2023 installer, on the right
the old SetupBuilder 10 legacy installer.

BETA-1 comes with a new modern wizard dialog style, more wizard dialog
space, more controls per dialog. This version also comes with built-in
support for Windows 11 (x86, x64, Arm64) and Windows Server 2022.

IMPORTANT: the new SetupBuilder 2023 is fully backward compatible to
previous SetupBuilder versions. But we had to change the size of the side
and top banner wizard images.

Side banner changed from 164 x 314 pixels to 164 x 475 pixels.
Top banner changed from 55 x 55 pixels to 200 x 75 pixels.

Only the standard "Top1.bmp" and "Side1.bmp" files were updated in this
build.

There is a new #pragma WIZARD_STYLE available. 0 = Windows standard
background color; 1 = White color; 2 = Light color. The default is "2".

You can download SetupBuilder 2023 BETA-1 here:
https://www.setupbuilder.com/products_setupbuilder_dev_download.htm

To login, please use your SetupBuilder serial number as Username and the
previous SetupBuilder 10 password as Password (check your original
maintenance and support plan e-mail). SetupBuilder 2023 and previous
SetupBuilder versions can co-exist on the same machine!

SetupBuilder 2023 is available, free of charge, to all SetupBuilder
customers who have an active SetupBuilder maintenance subscription plan. If
you do not have an active subscription, please contact us at
sales@lindersoft.com.

We'll begin to send out BETA-1 release notifications (including your login
details) tomorrow.

SetupBuilder 2023 is dedicated to our good old Clarion friends Russ Eggen
and Jean-Pierre GUTSATZ. Gone too soon! It brought tears to my eyes seeing
your names in my source codes and internal development documentation.

Later,
Friedrich

Thanks for the dedication.

They are both missed very much.

This seems to become a FAQ:

"Are SetupBuilder 2023 compiled installers still compatible with old Windows
versions (e.g. Windows 8, 7)."

Well, the short answer is "YES". See attached screenshot. This is the
original SetupBuilder 2023 installer image running on good old Windows 95
;-)

I think SetupBuilder 2023 is the only installer on the market that lets you
compile high-performance Windows 11 (x86, x64, Arm64) compliant installers
which are backward compatible down to Windows 95 <g>

Time to let go, Arnor.

Hi Jock

I was helping my daughter with problems she had on her desktop
computer. Needed to run the latest version of Adobe Indesign, but it
wouldn't run and somehow the windows update on the machine had tied
itself into a knot and it wouldn't update and without the update
Indesign wouldn't install. So I remoted into the computer and was
trying to get the windows update to work, running stuff like sfc, etc.
on the command line. The day after I saw she had posted a video on
Instagram thanking me for helping her and a photo of the screen with a
command line window up etc. and I realized she would have NO idea what
DOS was<g> I barely remember it myself - been kind of trying to forget<g>

Couldn't get the desktop convinced to update, so she ended up going and
buying a gaming laptop and she got a really good deal on one that should
last her a while. She does digital 3D renderings and animations and
those things take a lot of CPU and GPU power!

Best regards,

Hi Steve,

I always thought it meant "Denial of sleep"<g> I remember trying to
squeeze programs to run that would bump into the 640K (ugh!) limit or
whatever it was. Good riddance those days are gone, but it's not like
limits have disappeared<g>

Best regards,

Denial of sleep - you're confusing programming with parenthood.

I wrote a disk operating system for the C64 on a scsi hard drive
interface in 48k. Anything bigger than 64k is code bloat :)

to fix it.
