View Full Version : SetupBuilder Insight #1 - Visual Dialog Editor

Over the next few weeks I'll provide some insight as to what is 'in the
works' for SetupBuilder.

Insight #1 - Visual Dialog Editor (VDE)

The Visual Dialog Editor (VDE) enables you to create custom wizard dialogs
displayed by your installation package. This gives developers even more
control over installations.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

I really can't stop. I am caught in a loop <g>

I already have features for SetupBuilder 8 and SetupBuilder 9 on the drawing
board ;-)

Break Friedrich, Break!

Seriously, the ability to edit the dialogs will be a great addition. It's
the only thing that I miss about the Wise installer that I used to use.

Question. We have a number of large users who want to control when updates
get pushed out to the actual users, so we can't just enable a web update
within the package. Any chance that a "LAN" update function will be
available in SB8? I thought I saw this on the future development list at
one point, but I may be mistaken.

The "LAN Update" is planned for a later SetupBuilder 7 release. We have
that feature nearly code complete.

What exactly do you have to do with the "LAN Update". We still have time to
improve that feature.

Thanks,
Friedrich

My requirements are pretty simple.

I would like to be able to have the Lan Update function check for a
different version of the main program file on a LAN resource. At a minimum
it needs to initiate an install if the version on the server is newer and
ideally would also have the option to initiate the install if the version on
the server is simply different than the currently installed version to allow
for downgrades as well.
