All,
One of the new Windows Vista SP1 features is the "kernel update" (evolution
of the kernel). This brings the operating system into line with the
Longhorn kernel used in Windows Server 2008. As a result, Vista SP1 RTM is
version 6.0 build 6001 (6.0.6001) while Windows Server 2008 is also 6.0
build 6001.
Please note that SetupBuilder 6.7 can already handle this!
Quite a few "non-SetupBuilder" installers have problems with Vista SP1 and
Windows Server 2008 detection. But if you are using SetupBuilder 6.7, then
you are safe. There is no need to change your code.
I have attached a simple script that demonstrates XP, Vista, and Windows
2008 detection. If you are running the script under the latest Windows
Server 2008, you'll see that the Service Pack Level is actually "Service
Pack 1". It's not really Server 2008 Service Pack 1, but rather Service
Pack 1 of the original Longhorn code (Windows 6.0).
SetupBuilder 6.7 Build 2130 ("February 2008 Update") is compatible with the
latest Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008.
We are committed to providing you with support for the latest advancements
in installation, deployment and operating system technology!
