All,

We plan to release SetupBuilder 5.0 Final Release (build 1244) on Wednesday,
August 31, 2005.

This will be a full install. You have to uninstall the previous alpha and
beta versions before installing the final release.

Your current product serial number and a "Maintenance Plan Key" is required
in order to install SetupBuilder 5. We will begin to send "Maintenance
Plan Keys" out to all registered SetupBuilder 5 users next week.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Hi Dave,

Thank you! Development of SB5 was a *huge* investment for us. Thanks
to Clarion 6.2, we now have a very stable Installation Authoring and
Configuration Management environment. Great plans are in the works for
SetupBuilder and version 5.0 is a major piece of what's to come in the
future :)

With regards to the "Maintenance Key". If you purchase a SetupBuilder 5
Professional or Developer licenses, the package includes a one-year
Maintenance and Support Plan subscription under which you are eligible for
support, upgrades and updates. The Maintenance and Support Plan
subscription is offered in 12 and 6 month periods.

The Maintenance and Support Plan includes:

- Access to all minor and major upgrades for your product free of charge
- 24 x 7 access to product Web Communities
- Access to technical e-mail developer support (annual subscription:
30 support incidents; semi-annual subscription: 15 support incidents)
- Protection against price increases for the duration of your plan
- Renewal notices sent automatically, to insure your plan against
expiration
- Priority involvement in Beta Programs

You upgraded to SB4 Web Edition on May 06, 2003 and you participated in
the SB5 beta program. In your case you'll get a free upgrade to SB5
Developer Edition (final) and a free semi-annual Maintenance and Support
Plan subscription.

Of course, there is no requirement to renew a Maintenance and Support Plan
subscription! As part of our updates philosophy, we strongly disagree
with forcing customers to pay annual or semi-annual maintenance on a
software product when they may not need or want the new features. It's
always possible to purchase any major upgrade or minor update at the
current list price when you feel the new features included in the update
is worth paying for.

Does this mean that the work we have done on installation routines (I have
16) must also be unistalled and re-done or will the existing scripts be OK?

Since your scripts are source, I think this will only affect the compiled
install apps. I think it safe to say that all your projects should be
re-compiled.

Barry,

NO! All existing scripts can be used with the final SB5.

You only have to uninstall the "old" SB5 (alpha, beta, or pre-release)
system to make sure the final build starts with a clean installation.

By the way, if you start the (final) SB5 installation, it will uninstall the
previous version for you and even "remembers" your serial number. You only
have to enter your Maintenance Plan ID.

Friedrich,

Uninstalling SB brought something to mind. Have you considered an option to
let us specify our own include and templates directories?
