Friedrich,
The update GPF'd again. Please let me know what I can do to help find this.

Mark,
Please do *not* update your software (using the full install). I'll send
you a small debug version tomorrow morning, okay? Then we can find out
which function GPFs.
BTW, does it GPF when the dialog tells you a new version is available or
after it downloaded the web installer?
Thank you for your help!

BTW, do you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet? If this is the
case, do you see the proxy information pre-filled in the proxy dialog?
Thanks,
Friedrich

Ok, no prob.

This time, I let it nag me to close SB5, rather than closing it myself
after the download/upgrade process starts.
Shortly after closing it, the updater GPF'd. Thats roughly the same as last
time, I think it was either downloading sbuilder.exe or installing it,
based on the dialog being displayed.

Mark,
For grins, uninstall SB and ensure the folder is actually empty (save for
your projects). Re-boot. Install the full install version and see if the
auto-path GPFs again.

I did that last time. Friedrich asked me NOT to do that this time.

Question: I currently am using SetupBuilder 5.0.1244. I'm having a GPF
problem on one machine during install, but no others. I have concerns about
upgrading to the latest. My concerns are:
1. I'm terrified of upgrading to the latest SB because I'm afraid that I
will have to go through the process of debugging my scripts all over again.
2. I am on C6.1 latest, and I'm concerned that with a newer version that
when I call my older .dlls there will be a problem. I've heard that SV no
longer offers the $150 maintenance option and I surely am not committing to
CW 7 at this point. I'll wait for time-limited trial of CW 7.0 to come
out, and if it looks good, then I'll buy it. It also doesn't make sense to
commit that far into the future. One cannot know what he will be doing by
that time. Opportunities change for all of us all continually.
3. SB will have changed so much that I no longer recognize it, and need to
learn all over again.
Please advise,
Jack T.

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean. I guess either too much coffee or
not enough on my side <g>.

SetupBuilder 5 is language independent and comes with its own compiler and
linker technology. The IDE is Clarion 6.2 source code. It creates native
Win32 executables and the DLL calling feature has nothing to do with the
Clarion version. The installer and uninstaller engines, patch engine,
compression library and important service libraries are 100% Visual Studio
2002/2003/2005 C/C++/C# code. Compiled SB5 setup.exe files never rely on
Clarion. We can support 32-bit and 64-bit and current UI (XP and future
Vista Theme Support) from within the setup.exe.

Do you have concerns that SB5 changed so much between build #1244 and #1354?
What we do in the next few years is to improve the SB product line. Please
see "SetupBuilder Roadmap 2006" topic.
BTW, there is a SetupBuilder 5.2 evaluation version available. We'll make
a new build available soon. We'll introduce a Visual Dialog Editor within
the next 4-6 weeks.

Someone else touched base with me with a private e-mail indicating that they
were concerned too but that they have not encountered any problems with
their scripts which were also written quite awhile back. He basically
stated that everything seems to be backward compatible and that the
environment has added new features, but is not that different, which is good
news for me.

That's what I want to hear.

I'm on maintenance with you, I just don't have time to learn something new
or participate in betas at the moment because I'm too busy.

Thank you, Jack. Yes, all SB5 scripts are backwards compatible. The same
will be true for SetupBuilder 5.5, 6.0, etc.
BTW, I am always here to help. If there is any problem or question, or if
you are concerned about something, please let me know. I believe we have a
very stable installation product now.
Thanks,
Friedrich

I have about 10 install scripts in SB5, 3 of them dealing with ASA and
5 of them dealing with webupdates. I started using it long time ago
when it first came out in beta. I have not always kept up with the
updates, but for the most part I have been up todate. I'm using the
latest build now.
The only thing that sometimes happened during the beta period was that
string resources used on the background would get corrupt causing some
of the text (header, subheader, footer) not to show up. Friedrich
generally fixed those when I sent them to him or I simply re-created
the scripts. The webupdater has worked very nicely and Friedrich has
implemented all my suggestions in that area so I really can't
complain;)
I don't quite understand your concerns. You are using an old version
of the program and there have been many fixes and updates since then
that have only made the product much better. I have never had to
"debug" the scripts.

That's cool! Last time I needed it bad and needed it early, so I needed to
be a lab rodent. When I got something pretty good, I scampered off and hid
on you. In the mean time I've heard rumors of an SB help system, a more
stable version of CW etc., but I wanted to look around before I came out of
my hole.
Thanks,
Jack T.

Well when I was involved, not every release or patch of CW went in a
northerly direction, and when it didn't, it frequently affected SB and
caused Friedrich's ears to turn red.
>I have never had to "debug" the scripts.<
I have. New ways of doing things caused me to have to move and redo things.
Since I haven't kept up with the product I needed to ask.
Thanks,
Jack T.
