View Full Version : My pet hate with SB

I never thought I would hate anything about SB but .....

When compiling and adding code signing, the private key password window
keeps popping up. This means that when trying to do any other work you
either end up entering a strange password inadvertently or just have to keep
switching windows because you do not see the window has popped up
momentarily.

Can this window not pop up every time Friedrich?

Other than that I cannot praise SB enough.

John,

Just enter the password in the project (under code signing) and let SB
remember it It is stored encrypted and masked so there are no worries
there.

The window still comes up, but it is no big deal.

Does that help?

Charles

NO!

I do store it etc. but when the window pops up and you are in Word say (or
just Clarion coding) the window still pops up and there are times when you
can actually overtype the password and then SB fails. It is possible to
catch the popup window, enter some text and press enter to action the OK
button on the popup window without even realising it.

The window needs to stay in the background.

John,

I would suggest this - code signing is such an important part of the
process that needs to be accomplished correctly -

let SB run in the foreground,

and enter passwords into the project as Charles mentioned,

then move on to other programs - less frustration, and the job gets done
correctly.

Well, you hate SetupBuilder for the wrong reason. The Microsoft
Authenticode tool SignCode.exe does not support passing of passwords at all.
So you had to enter the password manually every time if SetupBuilder would
not pop the password dialog up and enter the password for you. I think
SetupBuilder saves you some time here ;-)

If you check the manual (or the newsgroups) then you'll find out that
SetupBuilder also supports SignTool.exe (for more than a year now <g>).

Hope this helps! And I hope you don't hate SetupBuilder any longer for
something that is not SetupBuilders fault.

Thanks Friedrich. Sorry - that was bit strong wasn't it. It was meant to be
a bit tongue in cheek.

I will check out SignTool.exe and of course my normal feelings about SB have
returned.

I love it and yes it does save me a huge chunk of time.

John,

Use signtool like I do now and all will be fine for you for this popup
window pb : signtool works silently and as when you have 20/40 dll's to sign
..... :)
