View Full Version : SignCode or Signtool ?

Hi there

I have just bought the comodo certificate and have started implementing it.
I got it working with Signcode and an old pkey.exe . This works fine, but i
have to key in the password 3 times for each build ( my exe file, installer
and uninstaller). I want the password entered automatically ( I too am
lazy ), so I installed SDK, found Signtool.exe, found pvk2pfx.exe and made a
pfx file. I then made a bat file to test the signtool function and found
that i need capicom.dll ( I use Vista 32 ) V2.1.0.1 or newer. Back to the
SDK where i found capicom.dll V2.1.0.2 wich i then copied to where i have my
signtool. Now to the problem: I still get the error saying it need
capicom.dll .
Is there any way i can make signtool.exe run under Vista 32 ?

Hi there
Well, i just found the solution to make signtool work with Windows Vista.
First i install the capicom SDK V2.1.0.1 . This does not work.
Then i install security update for Capicom and then it works !!

You can find them both here ( i suppose you just change displaylang to your
own language) :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=capicom&DisplayLang=da

I now have a perfect signing on Vista of my exe, the installer and the
uninstaller Without having to key in the password.

I just use the built-in defaults in SetupBuilder, enter the password ONCE
and forget it.

Why go through all that hard work when you don't have to?

Hi Charles
That's what i tried, but it did not work. The default is signcode, and i
could not get the password automation to work. It works now, but it took a
little more time than expected.

Because some of us (including lil ol' moi) had issues in the past with SB's
signcode approach when the window it popped up lost focus.
The solution is to use signtool and a .pfx and to specify those in the
project's properties in SB.
I'm not aware of a way to do this without a bit of work. Last I looked, one
isn't allowed to redistribute signtool separately. So each user needs to
get it, then tell SB where to find it.

I guess that (since it works<g>) that both Friedrich and Microsoft are
smiling on me<g>.

I've never had a problem with the way it works out of the box (knock on
wood).

Jane,

Don't let Charles fool you - he is a "Closet XP User"! :-D

I am using Vista Ultimate 32 and "I've never had a problem with the way it
works out of the box (knock on wood)." as well.

I just fill everything in the SB6 profile like Charles does,

"I just use the built-in defaults in SetupBuilder, enter the password ONCE
and forget it.

Why go through all that hard work when you don't have to?"

and it works!

....and I will be as long as Clarion is 16 bit<g>.

Which would explain why my hair is long and healthy instead of lying in a
pile on the floor next to the computer!

My balding spot actually started with some version of DOS, although Vista
may have something to do with my Long Term Memory shrinking drastically
since early last year, so I can't recall WHICH DOS verison!

I _think_ that issue has been solved? I don't seem to have any issues when
calling SB from the Build Automator on projects that do code signing.
