Backup and File Name Changes

We are using setupbuilder to create a Patch routine for our application
suite.
I would like to be able to backup replaced files, but not change the name of
the file. (for example, i don't want run.exe to become run.001)
I am using some inteligence in assigning my backup directory.

Also, I don't want to change the existing uninstall information - that is,
uninstall should uninstall the application suite completely, not just remove
the patch.

Any ideas?

(I know, this is probably simple stuff, but I just never ran across the need
until now)
