View Full Version : False-positive "Trojan.Zlob-7277" virus detection
NewsArchive
08-05-2008, 10:41 AM
All,
A "false-positive" is another way of saying "mistake". As applied to the
field of anti-virus programs, a false positive occurs when the program
mistakenly flags an innocent file as being infected. Over-sensitivity in
the automatic detection of viruses (or heuristics) leading to false alarms
about virus infection is something of an Achilles Hell for anti-virus
scanners, which by their nature need frequent updating.
ClamAV is an excellent and very popular AntiVirus system for UNIX. It's
running behind-the-scenes on most UNIX server worldwide.
http://www.clamav.net/
ClamAV released a virus definition update (on 8/1/2008) that caused its
product to ID all SetupBuilder application files (installer, uninstaller,
webupdate, etc.) as Trojan.Zlob-7277 virus. As a result, quite a few virus
scanner (e-mail scanning on mail gateways, FTP, etc.) removed files compiled
with any version of SetupBuilder 5.x and 6.x (and even SetupBuilder 7).
This was a false-positive "Trojan.Zlob-7277" virus detection!
We were in contact with ClamAV and they fixed this bug early this morning,
around 11 o'clock. The virus definition is updated around the world now.

LOL - well buddy, I know where your hair went<g>.
At 51 I haven't had a haircut in 19 months<g>. No particular reason other
than I just never had long hair before.
Fortunately (thanks to good genes<g>) the hair is doing fine (now if I
could just get rid of that spare tire<g>).
I have to laugh every time I am at the store and some person there looks me
over and asks if I am a professor at the local University...
Life is too short not to have some fun with it<g>.

Friedrich,
You are right - that was a younger looking Friedrich/Charles.
However, here IS the real deal - Charles at 51 - "At 51 I haven't had a
haircut in 19 months<g>."
Some will say as Charles has matured, he has taken on the quality of some
famous person - you decide!

I've always said that maintaining our crew of "four legged kids" (no matter
what the annual vet and food bill) was a better deal than even one of the

ROFL!
We used to have one Schipperke female who was always a bit of a whack job.
As she got older she would stand on three legs (front lifted) and stare at
you for a LONG time.
I always told my wife that she was imaging how she would be basted in
gravy<g>.
